Gary Word
Pope
Dec 9, 1945 — Feb 16, 2024
Gary Word Pope passed away on Friday, February 16, 2024. He was born to Clifford Pope and Eunice Word Pope in Carrollton, Georgia, on December 9, 1945. He was raised with his brother, CB, and sister, Dodie, in Austell, Georgia.
Gary knew a lot about many things. He served in the Air Force during Vietnam as a Crew Chief on a C-130 Hercules, he was a mail carrier in Fort Myers, FL, a supervisor at Mobile Chemical in Covington, GA, and he retired from Jackson Paper Manufacturing in Sylva, NC (just to name a few). In addition to his professions, he loved to wheel and deal antique cars, boats, motorcycles, horses, and many other things throughout his life. He loved to break and ride horses from a young age through his golden years. He built many houses and a playground for his triplet grandchildren from the ground up… the man could do anything. He was always up for an adventure.
Gary, a.k.a. Dad, Uncle G, G, GG, and Papa, was a father of two, but he was also a father figure to so many. He helped raise many children that he loved like his own. He never met a stranger he did not like, was accepted by all, and loved by many. He was a tender soul who would light up a room with his sweet and mischievous grin and that familiar twinkle in his eyes. A huge void will be left in the hearts of all that loved him.
Gary is survived by his best friend, soul mate, and wife, Bonnie Pope; son, Kenneth Pope Fiscarelli; daughter-in-law, Mary Fiscarelli; triplet grandchildren, Alex, Zach, and Madeline Fiscarelli; daughter, Aubrey Pope; son-in-law, Alex Skalicky; grandson, Sonny Skalicky; granddaughter, Skylar Skalicky; and bonus daughters, Misty Tate and Casey Pettis. He is also survived by many cousins, nieces, nephews, and many friends. It cannot be stressed enough how many people were loved by this man throughout the world.
A funeral service will be held to honor and celebrate Gary's life on Saturday, February 24, 2024, at 2:00 PM from the Chapel of Martin & Hightower Funeral Home. Interment will follow in the Pleasant Grove Baptist Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday from noon until the hour of service.
He is off to his next adventure and will be missed dearly - until we meet again. See ya later Dad, Papa, Uncle G, GG, Gary!!! Go snuggle up with your mom. We love you.
