Geraldine "Gerri" Bernice Cheek, age 94 of Douglasville, passed away on January 11, 2021.  She was born in Atlanta, GA on September 10, 1926, daughter of the late Max Berner and the late Annie Ruth Zimmerman Berner.  She worked during her career for Georgia Highway Express Trucking Company and finished her career with ANO Trucking Company.  Gerri was a long-time member of Beulah Baptist Church. She is survived by her son: Larry O'Neal and his wife, Claudia; granddaughters: Casey Creal and her husband, George; and Leigh Shelor; great-grandchildren: Claudia Creal; Ella Creal; Sadie Shelor; and Shep Shelor; nieces and nephews: Sandy Lagroon her husband, Kenneth; Michael Berner and his wife, Dorinda; Stephen Berner and his wife, Catherine; David Berner and his wife, Amy; Laura Berner; and Tammy O'Neal Carter. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Howard Cheek; three brothers: Melvin Berner; Arthur Berner; and Charles Berner; and nephew: Christopher Berner. The family will receive friends on Saturday, January 23, 2021, from 11:00 AM until the service hour. A Funeral Service will be held at 12:00 PM in Hightower's Chapel with Terry Pearman officiating. Interment will follow the service in Beulah Baptist Church Cemetery. Due to ongoing COVID-19 restrictions, we encourage everyone to make the best decisions to remain safe.
