John Dudley
Watkins
Aug 19, 1951 — Mar 24, 2024
Mr. John Dudley Watkins, 72, of Carrollton, Georgia, passed away on March 24, 2024. He was born on August 19, 1951, the son of the late Warren Hinton Watkins and the late Ella Ruth McLeod Watkins.
John proudly served his country in the United States Navy. He enjoyed gardening and working with flowers. Taking care of his yard and home was his pride and joy. He earned an associate degree in Horticulture and managed many Gardening Centers in the Carrollton area. John was very knowledgeable in the art and science of growing plants. He also enjoyed singing at his church and at the weddings of friends and family. His voice was a gift from God, and he used it for his glory. John never met a stranger. Anyone who needed a helping hand, something to eat, or a listening ear, he was there. His compassionate character was beyond measure. John was a Godly man who was selfless and God-fearing. He raised his family to love God and show his love with understanding and without judgment. He was a constant sounding board for his family and friends. Any advice or questions asked pertaining to any plant or recipe, he was your guy! What John was most proud of and considered his biggest accomplishment was his grandchildren! His family was the most important part of his life.
John leaves behind to cherish his memory his loving wife, Debra Pearson Watkins; children, Jennifer Watkins Denney, Matthew Gordon & Devin Watkins, and Katie Elizabeth Watkins; grandchildren, Madison Lathery, Slade Lathery, John Thomas Denney, Eason Denney, Makayla Watkins, Anna Kate Watkins, Addison Watkins, and Merci Watkins; sister and brother-in-law, Rose Marie and Micheal Yore; brother, Paul Joseph Watkins; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Jim and Lisa Pearson, Bill and Elaine Pearson, Peggy and Clint Watson; and his beloved nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends at Martin & Hightower Funeral Home on Wednesday, March 27, 2024, from 4:00 PM until 7:00 PM.
