Maurice Holley Merritt, 91, was born on June 9, 1929, in Leslie, Georgia, and died on July 8, 2020, in Carrollton, Georgia. Maurice was a dedicated Christian. She loved gardening, and was a talented musician and artist. After graduation from high school in Leslie, she worked at Life Insurance of Georgia and served as a proud volunteer for the Red Cross. Mrs. Merritt was preceded in death by her husband of 47 years, Dr. Charles Reed Merritt; her parents, Audry Marie Griffin Holley and Henry Marshall Holley; her sister, Dorothy Aileen Weeks; and brothers, Henry Marshall, Jr., and James David Holley. She is survived by her two sons, Charles Reed Merritt, II, of Acworth, GA, and Marshall Scott Merritt of Concord, NC; two granddaughters, Audrey Mae and Emma Ruth Merritt; sister, Lillian Owen; sisters-in-law, Joy Holley and Katherine Holley; and numerous nieces and nephews. Her life will be celebrated at a private, family-only, graveside service at 11:0 AM Thursday morning, July 16, 2020 at West Georgia Memorial Park. Kent Standifer will conduct the service.
