Mr. Sammy "Sam" Carnes, age 65, of Whitesburg, Georgia passed away Tuesday, January 17, 2012. He was born November 6, 1946 in Burlington, North Carolina the son of the late James Oscar Carnes and Marie Scroggs Carnes. Mr. Carnes retired from Georgia Power Company as a Project Manager with 34 years of service. Survivors include his wife, Judy Polston Carnes; son and daughter in law, Chris & Patti Carnes and a granddaughter, Katie Carnes all of Whitesburg; also a brother and sister in law, Alfred & Judy Carnes of Rome. A Celebration of Life service will be conducted Saturday, January 21, 2012 at 2 PM from Martin & Hightower Heritage Chapel with Min. Mike Wall officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Saturday from 11 AM until the service hour. In accordance with Mr. Carnes wishes, he was cremated. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Sam Carnes Memorial Fund, c/o Understand Up! International Ministries, PO Box 677, Carrollton, Ga. 30112, (Checks payable to UUIM).
