Mrs. Shirley Ruth Hammond, age 83 of Carrollton, Georgia, passed away on Friday morning, September 8, 2017. She was born August 16, 1934 in Bowdon, Georgia, the daughter of the late Herbert Richardson and the late Louise McLeod Richardson. Shirley was a devoted Christian, wife, mother, and grandmother, who cherished her family, friends and work. In her younger days, she owned and operated Bowdon's S & W Dress Shop. In addition, she created and sewed numerous items including pageant dresses, dance and twirling costumes, and many other creative projects. She is also infamous for her talents in the kitchen, which became everyone's gathering place for love, joy, and some exceptional home cooking. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Willie Lee Hammond, daughter, Sandra Holloway; and brothers, Ermal Richardson, Herbert "Junior" Richardson, Jr., and Harold "Shorty" Richardson. Survivors include her sons and daughters-in-law, Charles & Donna Holloway of Carrollton and Steve & Shirley Holloway of Bowdon; grandchildren, Venus Holloway Swatek (Sean) of Bremen, Jake Holloway (Lindsey) of Bowdon, Shana Holloway Sanders (Rick) of Carrollton and Cory Holloway of Bowdon; great grandchildren, Charli Shea Allen, Richard Barre Sanders, III, William Crews Sanders, Hudson Sanders, Mabry Holloway, and Elsie Holloway; brothers, Larry Richardson, Sr. (Jeanette) and Jack Richardson (June), and several nieces and nephews. Funeral service will be conducted on Sunday, September 10, 2017 at 3:00 PM from Martin & Hightower Heritage Chapel with Rev. Couch Whitley officiating. Those serving as pallbearers will be Jake Holloway, Cory Holloway, Rick Sanders, Sean Swatek, Kerry Jackson, and Terry Richardson. Interment will follow in Sardis Baptist Church Cemetery in Bowdon, Georgia. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday from 1:00 PM until the time of service.
