Obituary

Adell Agnes Wingo Carden, longtime resident of Bremen, Georgia passed away peacefully in the early hours of Saturday, February 8, 2025. Born in Haralson County on November 23, 1926 to Arlin Zachariah and Maurine Mauk Wingo, Adell was the eldest of seven children. Raised in Haralson County, she was sixteen when she went to work at Hubbard's Pants Company, sewing army uniforms for soldiers in World War II. Adell married Johnnie Carden on June 27, 1946 and had four children: Barbara, Vickie, Patsy and Johnnie Gregg. Adell worked on and off at Hubbard's until her retirement in 1988 and then enjoyed having more time for her many interests. She was an excellent seamstress; a great cook, known for her fried okra, biscuits, and fig preserves; an avid gardener, who raised all kinds of fruits, vegetables, and flowers; an artist and storyteller; and a devoted Christian, who attended church services at every opportunity, loved gospel music, and enjoyed reading the Bible. Adell served as a Girl Scout Leader, Sunday School teacher, and for many years, helped lead Camp Antioch, a church sponsored week for children. Adell served many churches as a pastor's wife, and most recently was a member of Bethel Baptist in Bremen.

In addition to her parents and most of her siblings, Adell was preceded in death by Johnnie Carden, her husband of sixty-eight years; son, Johnnie Gregg; and granddaughter, Stacy Gilley. She leaves daughters, Barbara Stegall (husband, Lee) of Port Charles, Florida; Vickie Posey (husband, Derrell) of Raleigh, North Carolina; and Patsy Bilbo (husband, Otis Rolling) of Mableton, Georgia. Adell is survived by one sister, Deloris Betsill of Atlanta; three grandchildren; Brad Bilbo (wife, Amanda) of Bremen; John Posey (wife, Sally) of Raleigh, North Carolina; and Lee Pike (husband, Carl) of Raleigh. She also leaves great grandchildren: Jade Lester; Cami Stafford (husband, Christian); Matthew and Chase Bilbo; Luke, Ethan, Grace, Jude, Rain, Gavin, Silas, and Charlise Posey; as well as two great, great grandchildren: Ava and Caiden Stafford.

Thank you to the staff of Cedar Valley Nursing and Rehab, Moments in Time (especially Vada and Rose), Willowbrook Hospice (Tressa Willis and co-workers), and neighbor Danny Loveless for all the help.

Throughout her life, Adell Carden supported Calvary Children's Home at 1430 Lost Mountain, Powder Springs, Georgia and Saint Jude's Children's Hospital. Donations to these would make her happy.
