Obituary

Brett Mack Blankenship, age 36, of Carrollton, Georgia, passed away Thursday, September 5, 2019.  He was born in Lithia Springs, Georgia, on July 12, 1983, the son of Jerry Wayne Blankenship and Janet Sue Nelson Atcheson.  Brett was an avid outdoorsman that has spent the last three years traveling as a surgical technician. He was a Graduate of Lithia Springs High School Class of 2001.  Brett also graduated from West Georgia Technical College with an Associate's Degree in Surgical Technology.  Brett enjoyed life—from playing baseball as a child to teenage shenanigans. He could light up a room with a smile or a corny joke. He loved listening to music and sharing that music with everyone within a 5 mile radius. His career as a surgical tech gave him the strength to get out of dark places and opportunities to travel and experience life outside of Georgia. He was able to see a real northern winter in Illinois, hike the volcanoes of Kauai, Hawaii, learned to ski in Salt Lake City, Utah, and see the beauty of the canyons of Moab. While in Soldotna, Alaska he fished the Kenai River for king salmon and toured Seward, that he dubbed "the coolest place on earth!" Brett is preceded in death by his grandparents: Mac Blankenship, Elaine Chosewood Blankenship, Elmer Nelson, and Irene Thompson Nelson. He is survived by his mother, Janet Sue "Susie" Nelson Atcheson; father, Jerry Wayne Blankenship; step-father, Martin Glen "Marty" Atcheson; sisters: Jenni (Woody) Mahan, Jordan Atcheson, and Alyssa Blankenship; nieces: Mackenzie Mahan and Sydney Mahan; numerous aunts, uncles and other extended family members. "That's why I don't get stressed, cause my life is great." - Brett Blankenship. The family will receive friends at Hightower's Memorial Chapel in Douglasville, Georgia, on Saturday, September 14, 2019 beginning at 10:00 am followed by a Memorial Service in Hightower's Chapel at 12:00 noon.  Reverend Mike Sinyard will be officiating.
