Obituary

Cathy Elaine Harvey, a devoted mother, loving partner, and the heart of her family, passed away peacefully on April 19, 2026. She was born on December 30, 1956, in Heflin, Alabama, and lived a life defined by her deep love for those around her.

To know Cathy was to know what it meant to be truly cared for. She was a proud homemaker who poured her whole heart into her family. As mother to Kelly Vandiver and Sonya Hannah, she was their constant, steadfast, nurturing, and always present. She believed in doing things the right way, taking pride in even the smallest details, and she passed that sense of care, strength, and compassion on to her girls.

For 37 wonderful years, Cathy shared a life and a love with her husband, Johnny D. Martin. Together, they built a home rooted in faith, respect, and unwavering devotion. She was not only his partner but his greatest supporter and companion, walking beside him through every season of life.

Cathy's love knew no boundaries. She never saw a difference between biological family and stepfamily; family was simply family. She embraced her stepchildren, Johnny Martin Jr., Joseph Martin, Justin Martin, Dana Rutland, and Jeremy Martin, as her own, loving each of them fully and unconditionally. Her home was a place where everyone belonged and where love was freely given.

She also leaves behind her sister, Regina Coley, and a large and loving group of grandchildren: Daniel, Gabriel, Jackson, Leo, Brooklyn, Blake, Tyler, Kaitlyn, Joseph Jr., Avery, Rebecca, Paige, Katie May, Aaron, Haley, Alex, and Triston, each of whom she adored. Her legacy of love, strength, and devotion will live on through them and her great-grandchildren, Levi, Trevor, Melody, and two more on the way.

Cathy was preceded in death by her father, Earl Coley; her mother, Myrtle Ethel Beason Cofield; her brothers, Dennis Coley and Rickey Coley; and her sister, Marsha Joiner.

Her family will receive friends on Tuesday, April 21, 2026, from 10:00 AM until 12:00 PM at Martin & Hightower Funeral Home. A funeral service will follow at 12:00 PM in the chapel, with Pastor Mike Harris officiating. Cathy will be laid to rest in Heflin, Alabama, at AI Baptist Church Cemetery, 3079 Co. Rd. 62. Daniel Coley, Gabriel Vandiver, Mike Coley, Billy Hannah, Jeremy Martin, Sam Barber, and Travis Rutland will serve as pallbearers.

Cathy's life was a beautiful reflection of what matters most: faith, family, and love. She created a home where people felt seen, valued, and cared for, and that is the legacy she leaves behind. She will be deeply missed but forever remembered in the lives she touched so dearly.
