Chief Dennis R
Brown
Jan 31, 1946 — Jan 25, 2025
Chief Dennis R. Brown, 78, of Villa Rica, Georgia, passed away on January 25, 2025, at home surrounded by his loving family. Dennis was born on January 31, 1946, in Buffalo, New York, the son of the late Richard Brown and Pauline Krueger Brown.
Dennis dedicated his life to serving his country and community. He began his service in the United States Air Force, developing a strong sense of duty and commitment to protecting others. Following his military career, he transitioned to a life of public service as a firefighter, a role he would embrace for decades. At 18 years old, he joined the Williamsville Fire Department, where he quickly proved himself to be a dependable and courageous team member. Over the years, he proudly celebrated his milestone of 60 years with the Hutchinson Hose Company, marking a significant contribution to his local community.
In December 1979, Dennis took his commitment to firefighting to the next level by joining the Atlanta Fire Department. His tenure there lasted 26 years, during which he honed his skills, advanced his knowledge, and rose through the ranks to become a Captain. He made invaluable contributions to the department, ensuring the safety and well-being of many residents while mentoring young firefighters. He officially retired from the Atlanta Fire Department in December 2005, leaving a legacy of excellence and integrity.
After retirement, Dennis continued to serve the community in a different capacity by working as a deputy for the Paulding County Sheriff's Department for five years. Eventually, he took some time to enjoy retirement and the pleasures of life while reconnecting with family and friends.
However, Dennis's passion for firefighting remained strong. He returned to the field he loved by joining the Fairfield Plantation Fire Rescue. His leadership and dedication led him to the position of Chief, where he played a crucial role in shaping the volunteer fire department's practices and fostering a strong sense of camaraderie among his fellow firefighters. Most recently, he operated as Chief of the Fairfield Plantation Volunteer Fire Department, guiding new recruits and ensuring that the department maintained its high standards of professionalism and readiness.
While Dennis had an extraordinary career marked by bravery and leadership, the title he held most dear was that of Papa. He cherished his family and was a loyal husband, a nurturing father, and an incredibly devoted grandfather. His love for his family was evident in everything he did, from attending family gatherings to sharing stories and lessons from his life experiences. Dennis will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him, as his presence profoundly impacted countless lives within his community and family.
He leaves behind a loving family that includes his wife, Vicky Smith Brown, and children, Dennis R. Brown Jr., Michele Brown, Deborah & Sean Ritchie, Lisa & Damon Adams, and Laurie & Jessica North. Dennis's legacy continues through his grandchildren – Ashlee Brown, Carson Hucks, Emma Ritchie, Kyla Hucks, Meghan Ritchie, and Jaxon Adams – and his four great-grandchildren, who carry his spirit and love in their hearts.
In addition to his parents, Dennis was preceded in death by his grandson, Zachary Brown.
A funeral service will honor and celebrate Chief Brown's life on Saturday, February 1, 2025, at 11:00 AM, from First Baptist Villa Rica, with Chief Sam Hyde officiating and Laurie North providing the eulogy. Chief Brown's body will be placed in the church on Saturday at 10:00 AM.
