Evelyn Spradlin, age 93, of Rome, Georgia, passed away on September 29, 2026, the last of a generation in her immediate family. She was born on May 20, 1933, to Charles Barrett and Bertha Chloe Barnes after moving from northeast Alabama to northwest Georgia.

Evelyn attended Trion High School where she was a basketball rover. Her family moved to Whitesburg, Georgia during her senior year. She loved to tell stories of how the coaches would make sure she could travel over an hour from Whitesburg to Trion so she could practice and play basketball.

Work ethic was important to her. She would tell stories of her childhood making coffee over a campfire before daylight so they could start picking cotton as soon as the sun came out. She worked at Playtex from the late 1950s until the 1980s, advancing from sewing machine operator to manager of the production facility.

She met and later married Glynn Treadwell when she moved to Whitesburg. They had three sons, Gary Treadwell, John Treadwell, and Keith Treadwell, with multiple grandchildren and great grandchildren. After Glynn's passing in 1983, she met and married J.C. Spradlin in 1988 until his passing in 2023.

She attended church her entire life and could turn almost any conversation back around to her faith.

In honor of Evelyn's life, memorial services will be held on Friday, October 9, 2026, at 3:00 PM from the chapel of Martin & Hightower Funeral Home, with T.J. Treadwell officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 2:00 PM until 2:45 PM.
