Obituary

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Dolores Holmes, a loving mother, sister, grandmother, and cherished friend. Dolores was born on October 10, 1946, in New York City, New York, to the late Luther Butler Sr. and Emmaline Jackson Butler and departed peacefully on June 9, 2026, surrounded by the love of her family.

Dolores dedicated her life to caring for others as a Nurses Aid at Mt. Sinai Hospital, where her compassionate spirit touched countless lives. Anyone who knew her would describe her as a fiery soul, full of life and laughter, always ready with a witty remark or a spirited debate. She had a deep admiration for Barack Obama, which often led to lively discussions with those around her. In her downtime, she delighted in crocheting and enjoyed watching her favorite TV shows and movies, creating cozy moments to cherish with her loved ones.

Dolores was preceded in death by her brothers, Robert Butler and Luther Butler, Jr.

Dolores leaves behind her beloved daughters, Christina Smith and Jeanine Holmes, whom she adored beyond measure. She was a proud grandmother to Tre Holmes, Devon Evans, Jabrell Evans, and Mikaylah Davis, who brought her immense joy and laughter. She also leaves behind her sister, Diane Butler; her special friend, Nicole Benson; her best friend, Deana Forsyth; and niece, "pretty girl", Natalia Sykes, along with many other friends, who will remember her vivacious spirit

In accordance with Dolores' wishes, her body will be cremated, and her remains will be lovingly kept at a special place, serving as a constant reminder of her vibrant spirit and the love she fostered in all of us.

In this time of mourning, let us come together to celebrate the remarkable life of Dolores Holmes, a vivacious woman who knew the true meaning of family, friendship, and love. She will be deeply missed but forever remembered in our hearts.
