Edward Dewey
Bonner, Jr.
Jan 1, 1964 — Jun 26, 2026
Mr. Edward "Eddy" Dewey Bonner, Jr, age 62 of Bremen, Georgia, passed away on Friday, June 26, 2026 following a brief illness.
Ed was one of the last babies born at Higgins General in Bremen when, during a snow storm, he became the county's New Year Baby, on January 1, 1964.
He was the proud son of the late Edward Dewey Bonner, Sr and Jimmie Lou Anderson Bonner.
A lifelong resident of Haralson County, Ed graduated from Bremen High School with the Class of 1982. Throughout high school he was a standout athlete with the Bremen Blue Devils, and held many records as a running back, receiver, tight end and kicker.
Ed was also an avid golfer, an activity that he enjoyed throughout his lifetime and one that earned him some of his best friends and provided him with many of his fondest memories and endless stories of the shenanigans on the course.
Ed spent 35 years with the Georgia Department of Corrections Mobile Construction and Engineering Team. He was known for his hard work and dedication and for his compassion for the prisoners on his work crews. Many stayed in touch over the years expressing their gratitude and appreciation for his guidance, and when needed stern direction, helping set many back on the right path.
Ed was a member of the Waco Church of Christ, where, until his recent failing health, he often volunteered and served in many capacities. Most often helping to make sure the preacher knew when it was time to dismiss.
For many years Ed has been known around town as the bicycle Santa, providing hundreds of bikes each year to needy families and foster children in several counties-- many times with his own funds. That project became known as "Bonners Bikes For Tykes."
Aside from all of these good works and community involvement, his biggest accomplishment has been his tireless and faithful devotion and caregiving for his family. Ed dedicated the last 20 years to making sure the needs of his of parents and sisters were met throughout each of their extended illnesses. Ed often sacrificed his own health and needs to care for them.
Besides his parents he is preceded in death by his beloved sisters Michele Bonner and Monique Bonner.
He is survived by his sons, Jake Bonner (Brooke) and Reid Bonner (Kayleigh); his cherished grandchildren, Sawyer Bonner, Maverick Bonner, Grayson Bonner and Dallas Bonner; and his former wife and mother of his children, Wendy Bonner-Davis.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, June 28, 2026 from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Hightower Funeral Home.
Funeral Services will be held on Monday, June 29, 2026 at 3:00 PM from the Chapel of Hightower Funeral Home with Minister Jeff Clark officiating.
Serving as pallbearers will be David Thomasson, Matt Calhoun, Dino Santelli, Donovan Shadix, Bill Hightower and Tony Brock.
Honorary pallbearers will be Brian Payne, Mike Murphy, Rudy Maxwell, Jimmy Thompson, Scott Garner, Tom Hubbard, Steve Hubbard and any other Blue Devil football alumni or golf course buddies.
In lieu of flowers the family asks that you consider donating to the annual Bikes For Tykes that will be held in Ed's name this year, or to the children's charity of your choice.
