Edward D. Bonner September 2, 1932 – February 11, 2010 Edward Dewey Bonner, devoted husband, father and grandfather passed away peacefully at his home in Bremen surrounded by his loved ones on Thursday, February 11, 2010. Edward was born on September 2, 1932 in Carroll County, the son of the late Dewey Bonner and the late Zelma Reid Bonner. Besides his parents he was preceded in death by his ever doting and loving sister, Charlcie Cantrell. He graduated Bremen High School and remained an avid Blue Devil fan his entire life. Edward attended West Georgia College, was a veteran of the U.S. Army. Edwards outgoing, charming and charismatic personality, along with his endless sense of humor and infectious laugh earned him a lifetime of success in the sales industry. His career specializing in people person skills spanned from driving the Barnes candy truck in high school to employers throughout his adulthood such as Ivan Allen, Ray Sewell Co., Warren Sewell and Worley Sewell, to Blue Bell to finally the State of Georgia Correctional Industries which he retired from in 2000. He was an avid bird hunter and golfer, enjoyed music and traveling with family and friends. He loved all kinds of sports—especially those in which he could watch or play with his children and later his grandchildren. Edward was a member of the Church of Christ from youth and took an active role throughout his lifetime. He served as a deacon and then as an elder for 18 years. He retired as elder in April 2004 after learning he had Alzheimer's. He was one of the most popular song leaders for years and in fact, long after this horrific disease stole the man we knew, we were still able to enjoy his most unique and precious talent for leading and singing his long-time favorite songs. This gift was one of his last talents lost. Edward was married to his soul-mate, Jimmie Lou Anderson Bonner, for 53 years. Other than his loving and devoted wife, he is survived by children Michele Bonner of Bremen, Monique Bonner of Powder Springs, Ed Bonner of Buchanan, grandchildren Jake Bonner of Tallapoosa, Reid Bonner, serving in the Navy in Panama City Beach, FL, favorite and "prettiest" daughter in law, Wendy Bonner of Tallapoosa and long time faithful companion and friend "Blackie." Other survivors include: Brother in law, Johnny Cantrell, brothers in law and sisters in law, Tony and June Anderson and Gary and Edie Anderson, all of Bremen and several special nieces and nephews. The funeral, which will feature recordings of him leading several of his favorite songs, special readings from his grandsons and speaking words of encouragement and comfort for the loved ones, will be lifelong friends: Malcolm Hill, Leroy Dedmon and Bob Simmons will be held Saturday, February 13, 2010 at 3:00 p.m. in the chapel at Hightower, Bremen. Serving as pallbearers: Charles Easterwood, Johnny Cantrell, W.L. Rainey, Ernest Broughton, Larry (Red) Goolsby, David Thomasson, Bobby Reid and Kelly Staggs. The family would like to express their thanks and appreciation to the special people who work at Tanner Hospice Care. Donations in his memory are requested to be mailed to: P.O. Box 1136, Carrollton, Georgia 30112.
