Obituary

Ellis "Guy" Bates, 83, of Temple, Georgia, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Saturday, May 17, 2025. He was born on February 1, 1942, in Carroll County, Georgia, to the late James Odis Bates and Christine Holcombe Bates.

He was a 1961 Central High School graduate. He took interest in auto mechanics in his early teens and became a very knowledgeable mechanic. He had a passion for motorcycles and was once the go to motorcycle mechanic in his hometown. Guy retired from Raytheon Aircraft at Charlie Brown Airport after a long career as the Maintenance Manager of the Facilities and Ground Support Equipment. He was a kind and generous man who never hesitated to help others. He was a loving and devoted family man who had a great influence on the generations to follow him. Guy never met a stranger and always had a good story to tell. He found pleasure in riding his motorcycle, spending time with his family and supporting his grandchildren in anything they had going on. After retirement he really enjoyed hanging out with his Hardee's family and riding motorcycle day trips with the R.O.M.E.O.'s. He will be greatly missed. May his memory bring comfort to all who knew him.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Myra Nell Easterwood Bates and his sisters, Caroline Porterfield and Jackie Pointer.

He is survived by his sons and daughters-in-laws, Ken and Debbie Bates, and Jason and Courtney Bates; brother, Donnie Bates; grandchildren, Jarek Bates, Nolan Bates and Cassidie Bates; as well as many nieces and nephews.

Honoring his wishes, he will be cremated and laid to rest beside his loving wife with a private service being held at Meadowbrook Memory Gardens.
