Elvira Laverne Free, age 88, of Waco, passed away peacefully on January 9, 2026.

Born on December 16, 1937, Elvira was the beloved daughter of the late Edmond Plexico Messer and Ella Mae Daniel Cole. A devoted homemaker, Elvira poured her heart into caring for her family and home. She was also a talented local artist, generously sharing her creativity with her community. Elvira was a faithful and active member of Napoleon Church of Christ in Woodland, Alabama, where she found great joy in worship and fellowship.

In addition to her parents, Elvira was preceded in death by her loving husband, Robert Columbus Free, Sr., and her son, Robert Free, Jr.

She is survived by her cherished children, Synthia Wade (David), Aleshia Lusk, David Mitchell (Kim), and Benjamin Free (Amanda); grandchildren, Christopher Flowers (Melinda), Leslie Graves (Luke), Kimberly Towler (Vicki), David Mitchell (Hannah), Holly Smith, Laura Barber (James), Christopher Free, Emily Free, Sara Free, and Anna Free; and great-grandchildren, Megan, Natalie, Caleb, Joe, Jhonathon, Ruby, Rose, Logan, and Addison. Elvira's legacy of love, creativity, and faith lives on through each of them.

Visitation for Mrs. Elvira Free will be held on January 17, 2026, at Napoleon Church of Christ in Woodland, Alabama, from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. EST. Funeral services will follow at 1:00 p.m. EST with Minister Chad Murphy officiating. Interment will immediately follow the service at Napoleon Church of Christ Cemetery.

Serving as pallbearers will be Benjamin Free, David Wade, David E. Mitchell, David J. Mitchell, Christopher Flowers, and Luke Graves.

Elvira will be remembered for her gentle spirit, artistic soul, and unwavering devotion to her family and faith.
