Obituary

George B. Ragsdale Jr., 86, of Carrollton, Georgia, passed away on Wednesday, May 22, 2024. He was born on April 21, 1938, in Dallas, Georgia, the son of the late George Berry Ragsdale Sr. and Louise Bullock Ragsdale.

George graduated with pride from Paulding County High School and went on to serve his country in the Air National Guard. He showed remarkable dedication by committing 37 years of his life to Georgia Power, where he held the position of Field Estimator until his retirement in 1994. Since retiring, he has continued his active involvement as a member of the Georgia Power Ambassadors, demonstrating his ongoing commitment to the company and its community.

While residing in Dallas, George was an active and committed member of the Jaycees, a nonprofit organization dedicated to community service and leadership development. His involvement with the Jaycees allowed him to contribute to various projects and initiatives aimed at improving the local community. In more recent years, George has taken on the responsibility of serving on the board of directors for his homeowner's association, where he has been instrumental in addressing important issues and making decisions that impact the well-being of the community.

George found solace and peace in the tranquil beauty of nature and the great outdoors. He loved working in his yard and even won the Spade and Trowel Yard of the Month Award. He had a deep passion for camping and would often embark on adventurous trips in his motorhome, seeking out the most picturesque and serene locations. A fervent sports enthusiast, George's eyes would brim with enthusiasm whenever the topic of NASCAR arose. His favorite drivers, Jimmie Johnson and Jeff Gordon, were not just athletes in his eyes, but heroes on the racetrack. Additionally, he took immense pleasure in cheering for the Atlanta Braves during their baseball games. Beyond sports, George also cherished the joy of line dancing, a pastime he shared with his beloved wife, Becky. The rhythm and movement of the dance floor brought them both immeasurable happiness and created cherished memories.

For many years, George dedicated himself to serving his faith and community at Our Lady of Perpetual Help. As a greeter and usher, he warmly welcomed parishioners and ensured that everyone felt a sense of belonging. His commitment and selflessness made a lasting impact on the church community, as he tirelessly devoted his time and energy to creating a welcoming and inclusive environment for all who entered the church. He was also an active member of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul.

George leaves behind to cherish his memory, his loving wife, Becky Lauve Ragsdale; son, Charles "Chuck" Ragsdale (Christa Harris) of Cartersville, Georgia; daughter & son-in-law, Christina & J. Scott Cheseldine of Aberdeen, Maryland; brother & sister-in-law, Henry S. "Sandy" &Judy Ragsdale of Marietta, Georgia; and two grandchildren, Ivy Cheseldine and Mason Cheseldine.
