With deep sorrow, we announce the passing of Mr. Gordon Melvin Marshall, who left us on Friday, June 5, 2026, at the age of 83. Born on August 30, 1942, in Carrollton, Georgia, to the late Thomas Jackson Marshall and the late Irene Beulah Marshall. Gordon touched the lives of many during his time with us.

He was a proud lifelong resident of Carrollton, where he attended the old Oak Mountain School and Whitesburg School. Gordon dedicated over 21 years of his life to the Sunset Hills Country Club before retiring from the Carrollton Parks and Recreation Department. Gordon's tenure at Sunset Hills was a family endeavor as his brother (Grover) was the golf course superintendent and his nephews (Kevin & Kyle) worked there as well. They enjoyed Gordon's many stories of his past jobs and working on the farm with his father and older brother. He was always willing to share his knowledge and was a great connection to the past that we will all miss. His commitment to service and community involvement defined his character and instilled in him a profound sense of pride. Gordon was a devoted member of Shady Grove Baptist Church, where he found strength in faith and fellowship.

A passionate NASCAR enthusiast, Gordon found joy in the thrill of the race and the camaraderie it brought. He also relished working on golf carts, a hobby that reflected his love for both community and the outdoors. Yet, above all, it was his family that held a special place in his heart. Gordon's absence will be profoundly felt by all who knew and loved him.

Gordon was preceded in death by his wife, Faye Nell Akers Marshall, his first wife, Barbara Jean Horsley Marshall; his step-son, Randal Cansler; his sisters, Doris Lyle, Clara Reeves, Florence Madden and Evelyn Burns; and his brother, Grover Marshall.

Gordon is survived by his nieces and nephews: Kevin Marshall of Carrollton, Georgia, Kyle Marshall (Tracy) of Carrollton, Georgia, Eugene Lyle (Thelma) of Carrollton, Georgia, Lawana Wallis (Dale) of Villa Rica, Georgia, Cathy Mathews (Ronnie) of Carrollton, Georgia, Sherrie Raby of Villa Rica, Georgia, Dennis Burns of Houston, Texas, Randy Burns of Dodge, Texas, Bonnie Madden Lee of South Carolina, and Penny Madden Murray of Waycross, Georgia.

Friends and family are invited to pay their respects during the visitation at Martin & Hightower Funeral Home on Wednesday, June 10, 2026, from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM and again on the following day, Thursday, June 11, 2026, at 10:00 AM with a funeral service to follow in the Chapel at 11:00 AM with Pastor Mike Harris and Pastor Neil Awbry officiating. Gordon will be laid to rest at Shady Grove Baptist Church Cemetery at 1293 Sand Hill Shady Grove Road, Carrollton, GA 30116, with the following gentlemen serving as pallbearers: Randy Marshall, Seth Marshall, Dash Lyle, Shane Matthews, Jeremy Wallis and Justin Davis. Honorary Pallbearers are Drew Knowles, Jared Wallis, Dennis Burns and Randy Burns.

As we remember Gordon, we celebrate a life well-lived, filled with love for family, a strong sense of community, and a generous spirit.
