Hazel Tolbert
Bowen
Aug 5, 1923 — Jul 2, 2025
It is with both sorrow and celebration that we announce the passing of Mrs. Hazel Tolbert Bowen, who peacefully left this world on July 2, 2025, at the age of 101. Born on August 5, 1923, in Whitesburg, Georgia, Hazel lived a life full of love, faith, and dedication.
Hazel was not only a devoted homemaker but also a cherished member of her community and a committed member of Banning Church of God, where she nurtured her strong relationship with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Her faith guided her through life, and she instilled these values in her family and friends. Hazel was a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, whose warmth and kindness touched the hearts of all who knew her. She exemplified the true spirit of compassion and devotion.
Hazel leaves behind to cherish her memory, her daughter, Paula Moore, and her sons and daughters-in-law, Harvey and Teresa Bowen, and Franklin and Brenda Bowen. Her legacy continues to shine brightly through her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who carry forward the love and strength she imparted to them.
Hazel was welcomed into Heaven by her loving husband, James Bowen; her parents, Paul and Effie Tolbert; her son-in-law, Larry Moore; and her five siblings.
Friends, family, and members of the community are invited to come together to celebrate her life, share stories, and reflect on the impact she had on all of us on Sunday, July 6, 2025, from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, July 7, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. at Martin & Hightower Funeral Home, with Rev. Robert Massey and Rev. Tim Garrett officiating. Following the services, Hazel will be laid to rest in the Banning Church of God Cemetery located at 1398 Main Street, Whitesburg, Georgia, where her memory will continue to be cherished.
Though we will miss her dearly, we take comfort in the beautiful memories we have and the legacy of love she leaves behind. Her spirit will forever remain in our hearts, guiding us on our journeys as she did in her own life.
