Obituary for Hubert "Chip" French Groseclose III
February 22, 1950 – April 28, 2025
With deep love and cherished memories, the family of Hubert "Chip" French Groseclose III announces his
passing on April 28, 2025, at the age of 75.
Born on February 22, 1950, to Hubert French Groseclose Jr. and Ellen Steger Groseclose, Chip lived a life
marked by integrity, devotion, and a deep love for his family. Known affectionately as a beloved husband,
father, and Papa, He brought joy, warmth, and wisdom to all who knew him.
A proud Yellow Jacket, Chip graduated from the Georgia Institute of Technology in 1972 with a Bachelor's
degree in Industrial Management. His time at Georgia Tech instilled in him a lifelong love of learning and a
passion for excellence — Go Jackets!
Chip worked as a teacher and basketball coach at Youth Christian School, where he made a lasting impact on
many young lives through both his mentorship and dedication. He later joined the State of Georgia as a tax
auditor, where he served with diligence and professionalism until his retirement in 2013.
While attending Maranatha Baptist Church during the '70s and '80s, Chip started his church ministries as a bus
driver and captain. Later, he was a devoted member of Sweetwater Baptist Church, where he faithfully served
in many roles over the years. He sang in the choir, taught Sunday School, led Vacation Bible School, served as
the Sunday School Superintendent, and was instrumental in starting the church's annual car show — an event
that brought joy to the community and reflected his love for fellowship and service.
He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Pamela Griggs Groseclose and his daughters, Missy Sailors and
her husband Chris, and Rosie Grubbs and her husband Travis. He was a proud and devoted grandfather to
Savannah, Madison, Tyler, and Carson, and found immeasurable joy in his great-grandchildren, Caroline and
Leeland. Chip is also survived by his brother, David B. Groseclose, and his wife Kathy Wright Groseclose, as
well as a beloved nephew and nieces, all of whom he held close to his heart.
Whether cheering on his grandchildren, offering quiet strength in times of need, or sharing a well-timed story or
joke, Chip's presence was a gift to his family and friends. He was known for saying, "I showed up for the band,
and a football game broke out." His legacy of kindness, strength, and unwavering love will live on in all who
were blessed to know him.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Thursday, May 8th at 2:00 p.m. at Sweetwater Baptist Church, with
visitation with the family and friends beginning at 1:00 p.m.
The family is thankful for the peace and hope of Heaven, where he now rests in the presence of his Savior.
In loving memory, we carry you in our hearts always.
