Ira "Homer" McEwen, age 83 of Carrollton, Georgia went to be with his heavenly father on Sunday, November 5, 2023 at a local healthcare facility. He was born in Carrollton, Georgia on July 16, 1940, son of the late Walter "Hubert" and Lena Witcher McEwen. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by a grandson, Charles "Charlie" David McEwen; brother, Earl McEwen; and sister, Kathryn McEwen. He served the Lord faithfully. During his life, he served as a Deacon, Sunday School teacher and music leader. He was a Member of Miller Academy Christian Church. Homer was employed by, and retired from Bellsouth after working for thirty-seven plus years doing various jobs within the company. In his spare time, he enjoyed gardening, listening to Gospel music, fishing and hunting.

Survivors include his wife, Linda McEwen; children, James David (Debra ) McEwen, Anthony "Tony" Scott McEwen and special friend, Sherri Muse, and Suzann (Scott) Kenerly, all of Carrollton; grandchildren, Jason McEwen and special friend, Amber Stripling, Colbie (Sarah) Kenerly; and great grandchild, Payton Grace Kenerly.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, November 8, 2023 from 12:00 pm – 2:00 pm at the funeral home.

Services will be Wednesday, November 8, 2023 at 2:00 pm from the Chapel of Hightower Funeral Home with Minister Vann Sorrells and Reverend Anthony Puckett officiating and music directed by Danny Nixon. Larry Bowen, Danny Federer, Tony McEwen, Colbie Kenerly, Scott Kenerly, Jason McEwen, James McEwen and Russell Lynn will serve as Pallbearers. Retired Southern Bell employees will serve as honorary pallbearers. Interment will follow at Pleasant View Church Cemetery with Dr. Sammy Clark officiating.
