James Jesse
Ivey
Nov 1, 1945 — Oct 15, 2025
James Jesse Ivey, age 79, of Carrollton, Georgia, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 15, 2025. He was born on November 1, 1945, in Carrollton, Georgia, the son of the late Henry Albert Ivey and Martha Mae Hammond Ivey.
James was a man of quiet strength, steady hands, and a servant's heart. He proudly served his country in the United States Army and carried that same sense of duty and integrity throughout his life. A skilled carpenter by trade, James worked for many years with Richards Homes, where his craftsmanship and work ethic were second to none. He found joy in building things that would last, whether it was a home, a project in his workshop, or the strong foundation of love within his family.
He was devoted to his family, always putting their needs before his own. To those who knew him best, he was more than a husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather; he was their steady anchor, their quiet encourager, and the one they could always count on.
James will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 57 years, Mary "Julene" Brown Ivey; daughter and son-in-law, Tina and Bob Every; son and daughter-in-law, Eric and Amanda Ivey; grandchildren and their spouses, Damien and Skye Ivey, Cody and Alexis Sprewell, Dylan and McKenna Sprewell, Troy Shane and Mariah Guess, Beau and Alexa Ivey, Evan Haynes, Will DePane, Brantley Thompson, and Kenny DePane; and great-grandchildren, Rylan Malone, Izzy Ford, Janessa Sprewell, Claysen Butler, Bailee Sprewell, Braylen Guess, James Ivey, and Nyla Guess. He is also survived by his sisters, Carolyn Kilgore, Rosie Pointer, and Molly Ivey; and brothers, Howard Ivey and Willard Ivey.
In addition to his parents, James was preceded in death by his sisters, Pauline Chappell, Gurline Swanger, and Mary Robinson; brother, William "Bill" Ivey; and daughter-in-law, Shelby Ivey.
The family will receive friends at Martin & Hightower Funeral Home on Friday, October 17, 2025, from 1:00 p.m. until 3:30 p.m.
A graveside service to honor and celebrate James's life will follow at 4:00 p.m. at Carroll Memory Gardens, with Bro. Benji Miller and Bro. Daniel Brown officiating. Pallbearers will include Cody Sprewell, Dylan Sprewell, Damien Ivey, Marcus Thurman, Evan Haynes, and Shane Guess.
