With deep sorrow, we announce the passing of James Wyman Swetman, who left this world peacefully on October 1, 2026, at the age of 81. Born on April 11, 1945, in Fort Gordon, Georgia, to the late Albert Echols and Lillian Irene Willis Swetman. James lived a life filled with resilience, love, and determination.

James faced life with a spirited attitude and an unwavering work ethic. He dedicated many years of his life to the K-Mart Warehouse before retiring from Publix, where he was a beloved grocery bagger and attendant. His kindness and gentle demeanor touched the lives of many customers and coworkers alike.

James cherished the simple joys of life. He found great pleasure in bowling, passionately supporting the Atlanta Braves, and savoring an ice-cold Coca-Cola while lounging on his back deck. His love for music, particularly old country and classic rock 'n' roll, painted the backdrop for countless cherished moments spent with family and friends.

He leaves behind his loving daughter, Keisha Smith (Jammie), and son, Larry Swetman (Laura), as well as his cherished grandchildren, Terrance Smith (Tiffany) and Jacob Smith (Kiele). He is also survived by his devoted brothers, Bobby Swetman and Ray Swetman (Charlotte). James' family will forever hold his memory dear to their hearts.

A funeral service for James will be held on Sunday, October 4, 2026, at 2:00 PM in the Chapel of Martin & Hightower Funeral Home with Minister Dale Lovelady officiating. Prior to the service, there will be a visitation from 12:00 PM to 1:45 PM, allowing family and friends to gather and celebrate his remarkable life. Interment will follow at West Georgia Memorial Park.

May his spirit rest in peace, forever remembered by those whose lives he touched.
