Obituary

Kathryn "Kathy" Turner Tyson, 74, passed away peacefully on February 7, 2026, in LaGrange, Georgia. Born on July 23, 1951, in Carrollton, Georgia, Kathy was the eldest daughter of the late Render Earl Turner and Nina Pendergrass Turner. From the beginning, she carried a quiet strength and steady presence that would define her life and the way she loved her family and friends.

Kathy was a graduate of Central High School and began her adult life balancing hard work with the deep devotion she had to her family. In her early years, she worked for Southern Bell while raising her children, always making sure home was a place of love, care, and controlled chaos. Later, a move to LaGrange opened a new chapter, one that would become her life's work. Kathy found her calling as a paralegal at Willis McKenzie LLP, where she dedicated more than 30 years of faithful service. Known for her diligence, integrity, and quiet competence, she became a trusted colleague and a respected member of the local legal community.

Faith was an anchor in Kathy's life. She was a devoted member of Grace Baptist Church in LaGrange, where her beliefs guided both her actions and her relationships. Outside of work and church, Kathy appreciated life's simple joys, reading a good book, listening to music, and spending peaceful moments at home. But nothing brought her greater happiness than her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Time spent with them filled her days with laughter and purpose, and she treasured every memory made with them.

Kathy is survived by her son and daughters-in-law, Scott and Samantha Tyson; her daughter and son-in-law, Heather and Scott Jones; her son, B.J. Tyson; her grandchildren, Ren Tyson, Ryan Tyson, Reece Tyson, Gage Whitley, Rayden Tyson, Scoot Tyson, Josh Sheppard, Kristina Sheppard, Kaleb Tyson, Jacob Meacham, Julie and Corey Phillips, Jonah Meacham, Joie Meacham, and Carson Jones; and her great-grandchildren, Tyson Sheppard, Kahli Sheppard, Ryder Sheppard, Ethan Butler, Chloe Phillips, and Atlas Phillips. She is also survived by her sisters, Sherrie Britt and DeeRenda Awbrey, and her husband, Gregg Awbrey; her sister-in-law, Debbie Sanders; and her brother-in-law and sister-in-law, David and Lisa Tyson. Together, they will carry forward the legacy of love, steadiness, and kindness Kathy lived out every day.

In addition to her parents, Kathy was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Billy L. Tyson Sr.; her daughter, Vicki Tyson; her brother, Kenneth Turner; her brother-in-law, Jr. Britt; and her sister-in-law, Linda Payton.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, February 10, 2026, from 4:00 PM until 6:00 PM at Martin & Hightower Funeral Home, where memories will be shared, and Kathy's life lovingly remembered.
