Obituary

Larry Gerald Brown went to be with his Lord and Savior on Monday, February 10, 2025. He was born on August 19, 1941, in Carrollton, Georgia, to the late Geneva Scantlin and Herbert Brown, who were also from Carroll County.

After graduating from Roopville High School in 1959, Larry enlisted in the United States Navy, embarking on a journey that would span six years. He dedicated four years to active duty, serving his country with honor, and then transitioned to two years in the reserves. Following his military service, Larry devoted 38 years of his career to Douglas & Lomason Co., where he was known for his strong work ethic and commitment to excellence.

Larry cherished quality time with his family, placing great importance on the moments he spent with his beloved grandchildren, who brought him immense joy. In his leisure time, he enjoyed listening to various music genres, passionately followed the Atlanta Braves, and remained a devoted supporter of Georgia Tech athletics, often attending games and celebrating their victories alongside fellow fans. Larry also enjoyed spending time watching his grandchildren playing various sports.

Larry was a proud member of Holy Ground Baptist Church in Roopville, Georgia, where he actively participated in the community and fostered meaningful relationships with his fellow churchgoers. His warm spirit and dedication to family, faith, and community made a lasting impact on everyone who knew him.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Marraine Barnes Brown; soulmate, Marie Coogler; and his two brothers, Roger Lipham and Wally Lipham.

Larry is survived by his sons and daughters-in-law, Donnie & Sara Brown of Verbena, Alabama, and Rodney & Gina Brown of Carrollton, Georgia; his beloved grandchildren, Noah & Sarah Brown and Rachel Brown; his great-grandchildren, Eason Grace Brown and a baby girl on the way; his sister, Brenda Wilson; his brother and sister-in-law, Randy and Jo Lipham; and several nieces and nephews. He was also survived by Marie's three daughters, Penny McGahen, Connie Penner, and Kim Cochran.

A graveside service to honor and celebrate Larry's life will be held on Saturday, February 15, 2025, at 12:30 PM at West Georgia Memorial Park, officiated by Bro. Kelly Runels and Bro. Keith Runels.
