Obituary

Mrs. Linda Joyce Richardson Whitman, age 82, of Roopville, Georgia, passed away peacefully at her residence on June 12, 2026.

Born on January 25, 1944, in Heard County, Georgia, Linda was the daughter of the late Zeddie Richardson and Daisy Brand Richardson. A lifelong resident of the Roopville community, she was a woman of unwavering faith, quiet strength, and genuine kindness.

Linda graduated from Central High School and Massey Business College and dedicated much of her life to serving others. She worked for ten years at Southwire before beginning a career with Carroll County Schools, where she faithfully served as both a school bus driver and paraprofessional. She touched the lives of countless students and families through her patience, caring spirit, and dependable nature.

Those who knew Linda often described her as "the same every day." She was constant, genuine, and kind-hearted. A person who could always be counted on to offer a helping hand or a word of encouragement. Her steady presence and servant's heart made a lasting impression on everyone she met.

Above all else, Linda loved her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Her faith was the foundation of her life, and she was a devoted member of Veal Baptist Church. She treasured her church family and found great joy in worship, fellowship, and serving others. Nothing brought her greater happiness than spending time with her beloved grandchildren and great-grandchild, who were the pride and joy of her life.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John D. Whitman, Jr.; and her sister, Ludine Cash.

She is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Terri and Richard Strickland of Roopville, Toni and Bryan Gabriel of Roopville, and Traci and Bobby Cook of Roopville; her brother and sister-in-law, Perry and Nancy Richardson of Roopville; her sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Judy and Dennis Steed; her seven grandchildren, Kayla Jennings, Katie and Trevor Schubert, Hannah Gabriel, Brad Gabriel and Charleigh Adair, Brody Gabriel, Abbey Cook, and Madison Cook; her great-granddaughter, Paisley Wendlandt, and her two great-grandchildren expected in the fall; and a number of nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends.

Funeral services will be conducted on Monday, June 15, 2026, at 2:30 p.m. from the chapel of Martin & Hightower Funeral Home with Rev. Wesley Boatman officiating. Interment will follow in Tyus Baptist Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday from 3:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. and again on Monday from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m.

Serving as pallbearers will be Bobby Cook, Bryan Gabriel, Brad Gabriel, Brody Gabriel, Trevor Schubert, Dustin Whitfield, and Alex Garcia. Richard Strickland will be seated as an honorary pallbearer.

The family wishes to express their sincere gratitude for the love, prayers, and support shown during this time. Linda's steadfast faith, caring heart, and devotion to her family will be remembered and cherished for generations to come.
