Obituary

Marguerite Boatwright Reid, age 99, of Bremen, Georgia, passed away peacefully on January 4, 2025, at a local healthcare facility. She was born on February 8, 1925, in Nashville, Tennessee, to the late James Pryor Boatwright and Norine Brake Boatwright.

Marguerite lived in Nashville until the early days of World War II when her family moved to Mobile, Alabama, where her father worked at the Mobile Naval Yard. It was there she met her future husband, Travis Reid, who was serving in the Navy. The couple married in 1947 after the war, and their journey together took them to various locations, including West Virginia, before settling in Griffin, Georgia, in 1955. In 1985, they retired to Bremen, Georgia, where they became active members of the First Baptist Church of Bremen.

In addition to her deep faith and dedication to her family, Marguerite was a talented seamstress with a passion for reading and solving crossword puzzles. She was a loving homemaker, always making her home a place of warmth and comfort for her family.

Marguerite was preceded in death by her husband, James Travis Reid; her son, Kevin Wyatt Reid; her sister, Helen Boatwright Smith; and her brother-in-law, Leon Smith.

She is survived by her children, Marilyn Davis of Peachtree City, Georgia, Andy Reid (Brenda) of Perry, Florida, Emily Byrd (Gary) of Hamilton, Georgia, and Celia Smith (Kenneth) of Adel, Georgia. She also leaves behind seven grandchildren: Jordan Davis (Valerie), Travis Reid (Lizzy), Galen Reid, Elizabeth Ludlow (Stefan), Virginia Braswell (James), Victoria Parker (Roscoe), and Laura Tucker, as well as 17 great-grandchildren who were her pride and joy, as well as several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, January 8, 2025, from 1:00 pm until service time. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm on Wednesday, January 8, 2025, in the Chapel of Hightower Funeral Home, with Dr. Hunter Roe officiating. Serving as pallbearers will be Travis Reid, Jordan Davis, Galen Reid, Stefan Ludlow, Roscoe Parker, and James Braswell.

Marguerite's legacy of love, faith, and family will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
