Marietta Weaver
Hudgins
Dec 9, 1943 — Jul 8, 2026
Marietta Weaver Hudgins, age 82, of Douglasville, Georgia, peacefully
passed away on July 8, 2026. She was born on December 9, 1943, in Athens,
Alabama, to the late Joe Weaver, Jr. and Natie Elizabeth Cunningham
Weaver. Marietta experienced the loss of her mother at a young age. Her
father later married Anna Lue Ingram, who lovingly became an important
part of her life.
Marietta graduated from Trinity High School (Athens, Alabama) before
embarking on a new chapter that would shape the rest of her life. After high
school, Marietta moved to Washington, D.C., where she lived with her sister,
Ophelia, and brother-in-law, James Burton. While in Washington, she
completed secretarial training and met the love of her life, Will "Bill"
Hudgins, Jr. They were united in marriage on April 10, 1965, beginning a
beautiful journey together that spanned more than 61 years and was built on
faith, love, devotion, and family.
Throughout her career, Marietta was known for her professionalism,
kindness, and strong work ethic. She worked as a waitress for Hot Shoppes
Restaurants, was employed by the National Alliance for Postal Employees,
and later served as Secretary in the Office of the Director of the Chemistry
Department at Howard University in Washington, D.C. Thereafter, she
worked in market research for several large corporations, where she
continued to earn the respect of coworkers through her dedication and
excellence.
Marietta was a devoted Jehovah's Witness for most of her adult life, and her
faith was the foundation of the way she lived. She found great joy in
spending time with her family, traveling, and creating lasting memories. Her
gentle spirit, kind heart, and unwavering love for her family touched
everyone who knew her. She will be remembered for her quiet strength, her
compassion, and the steadfast love she shared so freely. She was a devoted
wife, loving mother, proud grandmother, and cherished great-grandmother.
Her greatest happiness came from being surrounded by those she loved.
Marietta is leaving behind her beloved husband, Will "Bill" Hudgins Jr.; her
sons: Anthony Hudgins (Monique), and Andre Hudgins; her grandchildren,
Bryce Hudgins, Justice Fields (Darian), and Dray Jackson. She was one of
nine children. She is survived by her sister. Ophelia Weaver Burton (James),
and her brother: Leon Weaver (Eva); two great-grandchildren; and a host of
nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends.
She was preceded in death by her siblings: Dorothy Weaver Malone Wiley (Walter
Malone and Pryor Wiley), Catherine Weaver Sanderfer (David), Luther E.
Weaver (Margaret), James W. Weaver (Barbara), Mattie Clara Weaver
Shoulders (James), and Rhonda Marie Weaver.
Family and friends will be received at Hightower's Memorial Chapel
