Marilyn Agnes
Edwards
Nov 21, 1949 — Jun 9, 2026
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Marilyn Agnes Edwards, who transitioned, June 9, 2026, at the age of 76. She was born in Washington D.C. on November 21, 1949, daughter of the late Joseph Hockaday and the late Frances Hockaday. Marilyn worked for more than 10 years as a secretary for the Federal Department of Transportation.
Marilyn was a devoted mother, grandmother, sister, auntie, and friend whose kindness, strength, and unwavering love touched countless lives. She dedicated herself to her family, her faith as one of Jehovah's Witnesses and always placing the needs of others before her own and creating a home filled with warmth, laughter, and cherished memories. Little known fact, Marilyn was named after actress Marilyn Monroe. Another little known fact, Marilyn was an athlete in school. She participated in track and field, was a majorette and played baseball. Her real love was weekly rollerskating with friends.
She is lovingly survived by her two sons, Tony Edwards and his wife Stephanie, and Joe Edwards and his wife Chele. Her greatest joy was being a grandmother to her beloved three grandchildren, Darius, Jalon, and Christian who brought happiness to her life and whom she loved beyond measure.
She is also survived by her eight brothers and sisters, Peggy Hockaday (deceased), Joseph Hockaday (deceased), Reginald Hockaday (deceased), Loretta Bethea, Doretta McKinley, Francis Hockaday, Jimi Hockaday, and Glen Hockaday with whom she shared a lifelong bond of love, support, and treasured family memories.
In addition, she leaves behind countless nieces and nephews, each of whom held a special place in her heart.
Her legacy lives on through the family she nurtured, the values she instilled, and the many lives she touched.
Though our hearts are heavy with grief, we find comfort in knowing that her love remains with us always. We will forever cherish her memory, honor her example, and carry her spirit forward in our lives.
A celebration of her life will be held on Wednesday, June 24 at 11am, at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses at 15311 Nice Street, Bowie, MD 20706.
Family and friends are invited to gather and share memories as we honor our mom who meant so much to so many.
She will be deeply missed, lovingly remembered, and forever held in the hearts of her family and friends.
In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Lupus.org in her name.
