Mary Tate Hartfield, 63, of Grand Rapids, Michigan, passed away on Thursday, April 23, 2026. She was born on June 20, 1962 in Grand Rapids, Michigan to the late Tenny Wilson Tate and Antoinette Alcorn Tate. Mary was a devout virtual member of Pinnacle Crest Ministries and a member of Chapelhill Church. Mary enjoyed reading, writing, and volunteering. She was a social butterfly and often spent time networking. Mary also loved being involved in politics, which was a staple in her life until the end.

Mary is survived by her children, Antonio LeGregg Tate (Onteaya), Tryl LeVar Hartfield (Jasmine), Nneka LeZarie Hartfield, Eric LeCurtis Hartfield, Jr; siblings, Gloria Jean Dudley, Vocille Perkins, Gregory Tate (Diane), Gretchen Tate, Beverly Tate; mother, Antoinette Alcorn Tate; grandchildren, Jeffrey, Kordell, I'yanna, Carter, Jones, Tate, Corah; and 6 great grandchildren.

In addition to her father, Mary is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Eric Jerome Hartfield, Sr.; brother, Tenny Wilson Tate, Jr.; grandson,Tai Hartfield.

In accordance with her wishes, Mary was cremated.

A Celebration of Life will be held at Chapelhill Church on Friday, May 1, 2026 at 2:00 PM.
