Obituary

Mary Sue Willis Keown, devoted wife, mother of 3, grandmother of 7, great-grandmother of 16 and great-great grandmother of 4, passed away peacefully on Saturday, December 31, 2011. Mary Sue was born, June 11, 1915 in Haralson County. She was the seventh child of nine children born to the late William Thomas and Emily C. Davenport Willis. Mary Sue was preceded in death by John Arthur 'Johnny' Keown, her generous, loving daughter, Emily Jane Newbern and five of her siblings. Her survivors include two daughters, Judy and Tony Kimball and June and Tony Anderson. Her grandchildren include David Kimball, Rodney Kimball, Ricky Newbern, April Garner, Angelique Kauffman, Jodi Newbern and Antonia Greenhaw. Mary Sue Keown was a longtime, faithful member of the First Baptist Church in Buchanan. She had a special talent for cooking and caring for others. She continually blessed her family, church community and friends with delicious meals featuring her melt in your mouth biscuits, homemade cobblers, cakes, and banana pudding. She was devoted to her family and brought them together every Saturday morning with preparation of a delicious breakfast, always welcoming family and friends. She retired from Sewell Manufacturing Plant and started a successful catering service with her husband, Johnny. This line of work fit right in with Sue as she loved spreading love and good cheer. After her husband's passing, she began working for the home health and continued caring for her growing family. At that time, Sue began to do home health care and always babysitting one or more of her grandbabies. Mary Sue was a special lady who touched so many people in her life span of ninety six and one-half years. She was truly the virtuous woman described in Proverbs 31 and will be greatly missed. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Sunday from 4:30 until 8:00 PM. Services will be Monday, January 2 at 2:00 PM from the First Baptist Church of Buchanan with Reverend Allen Wilburn, Reverend Aaron Johnson, Reverend Harold Hamrick and Mr. David Kimball officiating. Music will be furnished by Harold McWhorter. David Kimball, Rodney Kimball, Ricky Newbern, Louis Garner, Mike Greenhaw and Cody Kimball will serve as pallbearers. Scott Kauffman will serve as honorary pallbearer. Interment will follow in Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery.
