Obituary

Mrs. Mary Warren Lathery, age 74, of Carrollton, Georgia, passed away on Saturday, March 21, 2026. Born on February 27, 1952, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Mary was the daughter of the late Lewis Warren and Maxine Buxton Stevens. Though her life began in Oklahoma, Carrollton became the place she called home, where she built her life, her career, and her family.

Mary was a woman of quiet dedication and steady commitment in everything she did. She graduated from Central High School and continued her education at Tift College before answering the call to serve her country in the United States Army. That same sense of duty carried into her professional life, spending more than 30 years working in the Carroll County Tax Appraiser's Office as a Senior Tax Appraiser. She was known for her reliability, her knowledge, and the respect she earned from those she worked alongside.

Her faith was an important part of her life. As a longtime member of Roopville Road Baptist Church, Mary faithfully served her church family in many ways. For 25 years, she taught the 4-year-old Sunday school class, patiently investing in the lives of young children, and she was also an active member of the church choir. She found joy in serving others and in being a consistent, caring presence in her church community.

At home, Mary found simple pleasures in the things she loved most. She especially enjoyed tending to her plants, taking time to care for them and watching them grow. It was a quiet hobby that reflected her nurturing nature.

Above all, Mary's life was centered around her family. She was a devoted wife to her late husband, Donald Lee Lathery, Sr., and a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She took pride in her children and found great joy in her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, treasuring the time she spent with each of them.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Donald Lee Lathery, Sr., and six siblings.

She leaves behind to cherish her memory her sons, Donald Lee Lathery, Jr. (Zanna Everett) and Hubert Lathery; her daughter and son-in-law, Stephanie and Tommy Clark; her sisters, Kay Stevens and Faye Braswell (Alan); her brothers, Billy Stevens (Christie) and Terry Warren (Kay); her grandchildren, Cameron, Tyler, Madison, Slade, TJ, Ecco, Brandon, Rylee, and Charlee; and her great-grandchildren, Ellie and Archer.

The family will receive friends at Martin & Hightower Funeral Home on Tuesday, March 24, 2026, from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM.

A funeral service to honor and celebrate Mary's life will be held on Wednesday, March 25, 2026, at 11:00 AM at Roopville Road Baptist Church, with Dr. Stephen Peeples officiating and her nephew, Dan Warren, delivering the eulogy. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Hubert Lathery Legal Fund c/o Kay Stevens, 780 E Hwy 5, Roopville, Georgia 30170.
