Obituary

Bernard Max Carroll went to be with our Lord on January 16, 2025. Born in Buchanan, Georgia, on November 7, 1938, Max spent eighty-six wonderful years with family and friends. He was born to Earnest Bernard Carroll and Bernice Maxine Whitton Carroll. Max is preceded in death by his parents, brothers W.C. Carroll and Jerry Carroll, nephew Kenny Carroll and niece Kim Carroll.

As much an example of a "Good Man" as you could ever find, his time with us was filled with family, church, sports, coaching, carpentry, building, cars and trucks, and above all, with his sweetheart Mary Carolyn Little. The love of his life, Carolyn, became his wife on February 7, 1959, and quite a saga began.

He was a member of Corinth Baptist Church and worked as a cabinet maker and as a builder at Cannon Casket Company. He farmed. Carolyn began her career as a nurse. Children followed. He started a job at Ford Motor Company that lasted thirty years until his retirement in 1994. He bought sports gear, cheerleader uniforms, and musical instruments, drove endless miles to ball games and concerts, and saved for college educations. A fine son-in-law appeared. One of his proudest achievements was seeing his two children graduate from college. Then came grandchildren—two fine boys who married and gave him great-grandchildren—four perfect girls. Then came a daughter-in-law, and at last, great-grandson Baby Max Cash, fifth in line of the Max name in our family joined us on January 10, 2025. Paw Paw Max passed away the following Thursday, knowing of, and proud of, his new namesake.

Some of his favorite pastimes were hunting and fishing. He built his own paddle boats and made anchors with concrete paint buckets until he was able to afford a motorboat. He taught generations, male and female alike, the joys of fishing and camping, bringing much joy and teaching a lifetime skill.

A born, engineer, though he had no degree, he could fix anything that needed repairing, design and build anything, and see any project to completion. A born teacher, though he had no certificate, he could teach you those things too. He could do fractions in his head faster than using a calculator. And, in his own words, he "wouldn't take a nickel" for helping you. Had he been an author, we would all be richer if he had written a book of family values, fatherhood, loyalty, doing the right thing, role modeling, selflessness, taking responsibility, making proper choices, and speaking with kindness. In all that's stead, we have his lifetime of example to cherish and learn from We, his family, though heartbroken, could not be prouder.

Max is survived by his wife of sixty-six years, Carolyn Little Carroll, of Buchanan: daughter Vickie Carroll (Garry) Cash, of Buchanan, GA: son Christopher Max (Tracy) Carroll, of Austin, TX; sister Patricia Cohran (Gentry) of Dallas, GA; grandson Brandon (Emily) Cash, of Tallapoosa, GA; grandson Drew (Lauren) Cash, of Bonaire, GA; and great-grandchildren Carolyn Cash, Quinn Cash, Audrey Cash, Elliott Cash and Max Cash; and several nieces and nephews.
