Merial Johnson
Cole
May 11, 1936 — Sep 8, 2026
Merial Johnson Cole, age 90, of Carrollton, Georgia, passed away on Tuesday, September 8, 2026. She was born on May 11, 1936, in Carroll County, Georgia, the daughter of the late Clovis Johnson and Kathryn Jackson Johnson.
Mrs. Cole devoted more than 30 years of service to District 4 Health Services, where she worked as the District WIC Clerk. Throughout her long career, she faithfully served countless families and formed many treasured friendships. She was a devoted member of Tabernacle Baptist Church, and her faith in Jesus Christ remained the foundation of her life.
Above all, Mrs. Cole loved her family. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend whose presence brought love and comfort to those around her. In her final days, she sang "Do Lord" at the top of her lungs, a beautiful expression of the faith she carried throughout her life. Today, her family finds peace in knowing that she is singing it in Heaven in the presence of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Houston Cole, and her sisters, Myra Warren and Ramona Campbell.
She is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Cindy and Terry Bagwell and Carla and Scott Morris, all of Carrollton; five grandsons and their spouses, Daniel and Jennie Bagwell, Brad and Katie Bagwell, Cole and Kacy Bagwell, Steven and Jen Morris, and Stuart and Lacie Morris; sixteen great-grandchildren; and her special family at Brookdale, including the residents and staff. Affectionately known as "MeMaw" by her family and friends, she held a special place in the hearts of all who knew her. She is also survived by her devoted caregivers, Marie Freeman and Pat Dukes, who lovingly called her "Granny."
Funeral services will be conducted Friday, September 11, 2026, at 1:00 PM from the Chapel of Martin & Hightower Funeral Home, with Pastor Rob Sauls officiating. Music will be rendered by Stuart Morris, Doug Jenkins, and Brenda Sue Holcombe. Interment will follow in Pleasant View Baptist Church Cemetery, with Pastor Mary Lou Grimmett rendering the committal service.
Daniel Bagwell, Brad Bagwell, Cole Bagwell, Steven Morris, Stuart Morris, and Chandler Morris will serve as pallbearers. Ayden Johns will serve as an honorary pallbearer.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday from 11:00 AM until the hour of service.
