Obituary

Michael "Mickey" Lee Harris, age 78, of Carrollton, Georgia, passed away on Friday, September 25, 2026. Born on October 3, 1947, in Birmingham, Alabama, he was the son of the late John Lee Harris and Audrey Wyatt Harris.

Mickey grew up in the Birmingham area and graduated from Hewitt-Trussville High School. He continued his education at Auburn University before transferring to the University of Alabama at Birmingham, where he earned his degree in Electrical Engineering. He went on to build a successful career with Furnas Electric Company, ultimately retiring as a Regional Sales Manager from Siemens Energy & Automation. Retirement, however, did not mean slowing down for Mickey. He later went to work for the City of Bowdon as a Code Enforcement Officer, a role that allowed him to remain active and involved in the community.

Faith held a meaningful place in Mickey's life. He was a member of Smoke Rise Baptist Church, where he spent many years teaching Sunday School. His time in the church, the relationships he formed there, and the faith he shared with others were an important part of his life and helped shape the values he carried with him through the years.

While Mickey was dedicated to his career, the roles he treasured most were those within his family. He and his wife, Jan, shared a wonderful marriage and built a life filled with family, traditions, and countless memories together. Family beach trips were always a special part of those years, providing time to slow down, be together, and make memories that would be treasured long after the trip was over. When his children were young, Mickey could often be found coaching their sports and investing his time in the things that mattered to them. As the years passed and grandchildren came along, his role changed from coach to their biggest cheerleader. He took great pride in each of them and loved watching them grow, compete, and pursue the things they enjoyed.

Golf was Mickey's favorite pastime and one of the great joys of his retirement years. He especially enjoyed the friendship and camaraderie he found as a member of the West Georgia Senior Golf Association. Whether on the course with friends or cheering on one of his grandchildren, Mickey appreciated the fellowship that came through sports and the relationships built along the way.

He leaves behind his wife of 55 years, Jan Griffin Harris; children and their spouses, Kimberly and Chris Robinson, Matthew and Michele Harris, and Neal Harris; grandchildren, Micah and JT Dyer, Kate Robinson, Elizabeth Perry, Luke Robinson, Rogan Harris, and Becket Harris; great-grandchild, Noah Dyer; sister and brother-in-law, Kay and Ron Moore; five nephews; and a host of extended family members and friends.

The family will receive friends at Tabernacle Baptist Church on Sunday, October 11, 2026 from 2 PM until 3PM with a memorial service to follow at 3 PM in the Chapel at Tabernacle, with Pastor Ernie Forrester officiating.
