Nalda
Weaver
Jun 23, 1938 — Jul 22, 2026
It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Nalda White Weaver, who passed away on July 22, 2026, at the age of 88.
Born on June 23, 1938, she was the daughter of the late Mendie Morgan White and the late Phillip Buna White.
Above all else, she was a devoted and loving mother. She is survived by her daughters, JoBeth and Amy, by her grandchildren, Mandi Gunningham (Ty Gunningham) and Micah Matchett, and by her brother, David White. She was preceded in death by her first husband and father of their four children, Ronald Thomas; her daughter, Melanie Thomas, who passed away at the age of four from a congenital heart defect; her son, Joel Thomas; her husband and soulmate, Bob Weaver; her stepson, Brandon Weaver; and her brother, Ronnie White.
Her capacity to love extended far beyond her own family. Throughout the 1960s and 1970s, she and her first husband, Ronald Thomas, opened their hearts and home to countless foster babies, mostly infants, providing comfort, safety, and nurturing care during the earliest parts of their lives. The impact of her compassion lives on in the many children whose lives she touched.
She was fiercely independent and remarkably self-reliant. She had a quiet strength and determination that enabled her to survive many difficult losses. She found great joy in simple pleasures, especially reading, gardening, and cooking.
She was a voracious reader who was a big fan of libraries and loved getting lost in the pages of a book. Fortunately, she never lost her eyesight and was able to continue reading up until the very end.
Food was her love language. She was a wonderful cook, and she found great joy in preparing food for family and friends and sharing meals with them. Every dish she served was an expression of her love and was unfailingly delicious.
She also possessed an extraordinary gift for gardening. Under her care, flowers flourished in breathtaking beauty, reflecting the patience and attention she gave to everything she loved.
In 2000, she met Bob Weaver, the love of her life and her soulmate. Together they shared sixteen wonderful years filled with companionship, laughter, and love until Bob's passing in 2016. During that time, she continued to be a kind, loving and nurturing mother. In addition to Bob's son, Brandon, who was 13 when she and Bob married, the two of them welcomed two teens, Kim Johnstone and Kenneth Cronan, into their home and loved and supported them for several years as if they were their own.
Nalda will be remembered for her unwavering love, her generosity, her quiet strength, and the countless ways she cared for others. Whether tending a garden, preparing a meal, reading a treasured book, or offering a safe place for a child, she made the world warmer and kinder through the way she lived.
In keeping with her wishes, Nalda will be cremated, and a private service for family and close friends will be held at a later date.
Martin & Hightower Funeral Home is honored to serve Nalda's family during this difficult time. Messages of condolence may be shared with the family at www.martin-hightower.com.
