Rev. Jesse W. Hilton, age 93, of Springfield, Georgia, passed away peacefully on April 3, 2026. He was born on February 27, 1933, in Tallapoosa, Georgia, the beloved son of the late Winford O. Hilton and Della Elkins Hilton.

Rev. Hilton dedicated his life to serving the Lord and his community. He faithfully pastored several churches over four decades, from 1957 until his retirement from Waco Baptist Church in 1998. Even after retiring, his heart for ministry never wavered, as he continued to serve as an interim pastor for an additional twelve years. His commitment to others extended beyond the pulpit, as he also worked as a substitute teacher in the Gilmer and Effingham County school systems from 2000 until 2016, touching countless lives through both faith and education.

In addition to his parents, Rev. Hilton was preceded in death by his loving wife, Bonnie R. Hilton.

He is survived by his children, Roger Hilton, Angela Smith (Bobby), and Priscilla Herrin (Phillip); eight grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren, all of whom were a source of great pride and joy in his life.

The family will receive friends at Hightower Funeral Home on Tuesday, April 7, 2026 from 5:00 until 8:00 p.m.

Funeral services for Rev. Jesse W. Hilton will be held on Wednesday, April 8, 2026 at 11:00 a.m. at Steadman Baptist Church with Rev. Randy Robinson officiating and Mr. Randy Pate providing a eulogy.

Interment will follow in the Steadman Baptist Church Cemetery.

Serving as pallbearers are Bob Hurst, Randy Pate, Andy Horton, Richard Barrett, Walter Kirk, and Kerry White.

Rev. Hilton will be remembered for his unwavering faith, servant's heart, and the lasting impact he made on his church, his students, and all who had the privilege of knowing him.
