Obituary

Richard Anderson Adams, lovingly known as Andy, passed away on December 30, 2025, at the age of 84. He last resided in Carrollton, Georgia, though he lived most of his life in Dallas, Georgia.

Andy was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Cherie Adams; his daughter, Allison Adams; his parents, Herbert and Ruth Adams; and his sister, Glenda Early.

He is survived by his children, Fran (John) Lawrence and Michael (Donna) Adams; his sister, Ginny Hendrix; his grandchildren, Erin (Hansen) Jones, Olivia Pointer, Michael (Victoria) Adams Jr., and Alex Adams; and his great-grandchildren, JoAnna West-Jones and Lucas Jones, who brought him immense joy.

Andy married the love of his life, Cherie, in 1965. He proudly served four years in the United States Air Force before beginning a long career with Delta Air Lines. He later joined the Navy Reserves, where he continued his service, eventually retiring from both the Navy and Delta. His time in the Navy was a great source of pride for him, and he spoke of it often.

Andy cherished the friendships he formed through both his military service and his career at Delta. He loved talking about his fellow servicemen and Delta coworkers, sharing stories, memories, and laughter from those years. Those friendships meant a great deal to him and remained an important part of his life long after retirement.

Andy was funny and well-known for his quick wit, constant joking, and playful aggravating—especially toward those he loved most. That mischievous humor was a legacy he happily passed down to his grandchildren. He was also a devoted fan of the Georgia Bulldogs and rarely missed an opportunity to cheer them on.

Andy was a devout Christian and had a gift for prayer and could offer the perfect words for any situation. Through his faith and his life, he left his family with countless lessons of love, kindness, humor, and unwavering trust in God.

Above all else, Andy loved his family deeply and was incredibly proud of them.

A graveside service to honor Andy's life will be held on Tuesday, January 6, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at Georgia National Cemetery. Family and friends are invited to gather and reflect on a life marked by service, integrity, and love.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in his memory.
