Obituary

Martha Rudene Long, age 92, of Vernon, Florida, peacefully entered into eternal rest on May 23, 2026. Born on July 29, 1933, in Carrollton, Georgia, Rudene lived a long and meaningful life marked by hard work, quiet strength, and deep love for her family.

For many years, Rudene worked as a seamstress at Lawler Hosiery Mill, where she was known for her dedication and skill. Through her work, she exemplified the values of perseverance, humility, and care that defined her generation. She took pride in everything she did and carried herself with grace throughout her life.

After retiring, she and her son Mike moved to Florida and created their own slice of Heaven on Earth. She spent her days tending her yard, watching her grandkids and great grandkids swim, selling antiques, cooking endless breakfast and strawberry cakes, and never missing a Sunday call with Rickie. She was a loving mother to her two sons, grandmother, sister, and friend whose greatest joy came from spending time with those she loved. Her family will remember her for her feisty spirit, the wisdom she offered, and the steady presence she provided through every season of life. As much as her family and loved ones will miss her laugh and love, we find peace that her and her son Micheal are reunited again.

Rudene was preceded in death by her mother, Edna Earl Crawford Harper; her father, James Leonard Harper; her son, Michael Long; her daughter-in-law, Irene Long; her sisters, Rachel Flemming and Merle Hayes; and her brother, Hubert Harper.

Rudene leaves behind, to cherish her memory, her loving son Rickie Long, and many grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, May 28, 2026, from 11:00 AM until 12:00 PM at Martin & Hightower Funeral Home. A graveside service will follow at 12:30 PM at Carroll Memory Gardens.

As family and friends gather to honor Martha's life, they will remember a woman whose love, resilience, and quiet faithfulness left a lasting impact on everyone blessed to know her. Though she will be deeply missed, her memory will continue to live on through the family she loved so much.
