Sara Spence Miller
Shadinger
Apr 12, 1945 — Dec 13, 2024
Sara Spence Miller Shadinger, 79, of Carrollton, Georgia, passed away on Friday, December 13, 2024. She was born on April 12, 1945, in Radium Springs, Georgia, near Albany. Sara was the 4th child of the late John Bullard Miller and Louise Cochran Miller.
Her early years were spent in middle Georgia where her father was in the pecan business. Sara met the love of her life when a Glee Club from Georgia Tech came to perform at Georgia College where Sara was attending. As the story goes, the college girls were awaiting the buses arrival and Sara spotted Jim from her dorm window and yelled, "He's mine!" Sara and Jim married July 23, 1966, and started their life together in New Orleans, Louisiana. They moved back to Georgia in 1968. Sara has been a member of Tabernacle Baptist Church for 55 years. She spent over 25 years lovingly known as Miss Sara, as a preschool teacher at
Tabernacle Baptist Church. Over her 25 years, she taught second generations from the same families.
In addition to her parents, Sara was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, James N. Shadinger Jr., her sisters, Anne Miller Birch and Rosemary Miller Pope and her brother, John B. Miller.
To cherish her memory, Sara leaves behind her children, John (Mary Beth) Shadinger of Alpharetta and Anne Louise
Shadinger of Milton; grandchildren, Hollyn Shadinger and Cole Shadinger as well as numerous and very loved nieces, nephews and cousins. Her unwavering love and devotion she showered over her entire family will be eternally cherished and deeply missed.
A memorial service will be planned following the holidays.
