Ms. Shirley O. Duke, age 89, of James Drive, Albany, GA, passed away Thursday, July 6, 2006. She was born February 8, 1917 in Carroll County, Georgia to the late William Bates and Elizabeth Dutton Bates. Ms. Duke was a homemaker. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Larry Burson. Survivors include four daughters, Willen Hortman of Albany and Jan Griffin, both of Albany, Trudy Duke Kelly of Carrollton and Teresa Duke Valentine of Villa Rica; a sister, Bonnie Jones of Tennessee; 17 grandchildren and a number of great grandchildren and great great grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted Monday, July 10, 2006 at 11 AM from Martin & Hightower Heritage Chapel with Rev. Gene Rowell officiating. Music will be rendered by Harold McWhorter. Pallbearers will be Ray Hortman, Wandell Hortman, Brandon Crews, Bruce Kelley, Michael Valentine, Randy Brunswick and Scott Holcombe will serve as an honorary pallbearer. Interment will follow in Poplar Springs Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Saturday, July 8, and Sunday, July 9, from 5 until 7 PM.
