Stan
Evans
Dec 18, 1957 — Jul 23, 2026
William Stanley "Stan" Evans, age 68, of Chico Ridge in Bowdon Georgia was called home to Heaven on Thursday, July 23rd, 2026. Big E has officially left the Ridge.
He was born on December 18th, 1957 in Atlanta, Georgia to the late Harry Winfred Evans and Lucy Lockhart Evans. A graduate of The Westminster Schools, his senior year quote was "If happiness is your destiny, you need not be in a hurry", and this is exactly how he lived his life. His joy was infectious, his laugh always at the ready.
He attended Berry College, meeting the love of his life, Sherri Folds, on the first day of freshman orientation in September of 1976 during an egg toss. Their nearly 50 years together have been marked by laughter, joy, commitment, and surprises. Big E always had something up his sleeve.
A natural salesman, "Stan the Man" never met a stranger. He had a gift for conversation, he genuinely loved people, and his ability to connect with others served him well throughout his career – from selling suits for Bowdon Manufacturing where he met many of his lifelong friends to selling printing for Thomasson Printing, and most recently Gateway Printing. He took care of his customers fiercely and was rewarded with true friendship and loyalty. His current business card reads simply "STM Hunter/Gatherer/Peddler".
He was passionate about life and truly valued what was important to him: his faith, his family, his friends. In that order. Stan's life was marked by kindness, hard work, and a genuine thankfulness for the simple joys of life. Every day he awoke with an enormous smile on his face, thanked God for another day, and sang in the shower.
He was a devoted husband to Sherri, the most incredible father and role model to Phillip and Jordan, and the most fun-loving and entertaining grandfather to four grandsons – Wayman, Fletcher, Harry, and Branch.
Big E's reach spread far and wide and his spirit enriched the lives of all those he met. He had a knack for giving nicknames and had many, many mantras. Some of which included "Health is wealth and friendship is king," "Your word is your bond," and "When you're early, you're never late." He loved the simple things, but his favorites included good bourbon, better food, soft bandanas and collecting fatwood lightern with his beloved labradors, Sophie and later Ryder.
His faith was the center of who he was and poured into every facet of his life. He was a faithful and active member of Carrollton First Methodist Church and the Fellowship Sunday school class.
As a founding member of the Centurion Golf League, he forged cherished memories and friendships that extended far beyond the golf course.
Stan had a way of making others feel welcomed and valued. His greatest legacy is the love that he poured into those whom he cherished. He is survived by wife Sherri Folds Evans; son and family, Phillip, Allison, and Harry Evans; daughter and family, Jordan, Logan, Wayman, Fletcher, and Branch Waters; sister and brother-in-law, C.C. and Robert Hankins; mother-in-law, Margaret Mote; cousins, Neil Lowe, Leslie Lowe and their families; numerous extended family members as well as many friends that have become family.
Friends and Family will gather for a celebration of Stan's life on Tuesday, July 28th, 2026, at 1:00 PM at Carrollton First Methodist Church. A reception will follow in the Fellowship Hall.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Carrollton First Methodist Church or Old Victory Church in Bowdon.
Martin & Hightower Funeral Home is honored to serve the Evans family during this difficult time. Messages of condolence may be shared with the family at martin-hightower.com.
