Obituary

Terry Lee Cryder, 78, passed away peacefully on September 17, 2026, surrounded by his family.

Terry was born on August 2, 1948, in Elberton, Georgia, along with his twin brother, Jerry, to Glenn and MaeBelle Cryder. He was a graduate of Elbert County High School. His favorite class was shop class, sparking his lifelong love of woodworking. During his senior year, Terry was also voted Prom King.

Terry went to work for the Georgia Department of Agriculture, where he made several lifelong friends. He retired after 36 years from the Department of Agriculture and soon after began working at Delta Air Lines in the MockUp Shop. It quickly became his dream job, where he was able to build things every day and do what he loved.

Outside of work, Terry thoroughly enjoyed woodworking and carpentry, cooking for his family (known for his famous boiled peanuts), fishing in the North Georgia Mountains as well as salmon fishing in Alaska, reading, gardening, and, most of all, spending time with his family. He was a faithful and loving husband to his wife of 40 years, Lisa. Together, they built a life filled with family, faith, laughter, and love.

Terry especially loved the simple traditions that brought his family together. He made homemade biscuits and country ham for the family every Saturday morning. He was a Christian and made sure his family was raised in the church. He was a man of few words, but his actions spoke volumes. He was always quick to lend a helping hand, loved to laugh and brighten someone's day whenever he could.

Terry was preceded in death by his parents, Glenn and MaeBelle Cryder; his twin brother, Jerry Lee Cryder; and his older brother, Haynes Cryder.

He is survived by his loving wife, Lisa; children, David Cryder (Kate) of Dover, DE; Lauren Cryder (Connor Harmon) of McLean, VA; Beth Burdette, and John Cryder of Elberton,GA; grandchildren, John David Cryder of Dover, DE; Katelin Williams (Kyle), and Coral Lewis (Anthony and Poppy) of Elberton, GA. He is also survived by his mother-in-law, Ruenelle Gilley of Carrollton; sister, Joyce Cryder Cooksey of Des Plaines, IL; sisters-in-law; Lori Trask, Jean Cryder, and Barbara Cryder and a number of nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, September 20, 2026, from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. at Martin & Hightower Funeral Home in Carrollton, Georgia.
