Obituary

Thomas Bernard Jennings, Jr., 89, passed away peacefully at home on the evening of Easter Sunday, April 5th, 2026. He was born on October 20th, 1936, to the late Thomas Bernard Jennings, Sr. and Opal Christine Heath Jennings.

A man of strong faith, Thomas was a pillar of the Church at Pleasant Hill where he faithfully served as a Deacon since 1975. With a loving heart, he and his companion were always willing to help and open their home for those needing a place to stay.

Thomas was a proud 1956 graduate of Carrollton High School. After working various jobs where he honed his skills, Thomas became a skilled machinist and founded his own machine shop, Jennings Machine & Gear, Inc. in 1979. He was blessed to operate and work at his business on a regular basis until shortly after his 88th birthday, when he began suffering from congestive heart failure.

He was preceded in death by his loving and devoted wife of 62 years, Harris Nell Griffin Jennings, infant son, Gerald Anthony Jennings, his brothers H.T. (Louise) Jennings and Harold (Marguerite) Jennings, and his brothers-in-law Ray Griffin, Harry Eidson, and Ralph Griffin.

Thomas loved his family and is survived by his children: Steve (Pilar) Jennings of Raleigh, NC, Janice (Ricky) Powers of Carrollton, GA, Gary (Melinda) Jennings of Carrollton, GA and Ronnie (Angela) Jennings of Clanton, AL. He was fondly known as "Papa" to his grandchildren: Steven Jennings, Chuck (Tiffany) Powers, Christy (Matthew) Greene, Patrick Jennings, Sara Jennings, Lyndsey Jennings, Griffin Jennings, Emily (Nathan) Burnett, Kayla (Austin) Robinson, Abby (Tyler) Gillen, Lacey Jennings and Dylan Jennings. He was also blessed with nine great-grandchildren. Additionally, he is survived by his sister JoAnn Jennings Eidson, brother Ellis (Cathy) Jennings, sisters-in-law Barbara Griffin, Hildred Griffin, and Maggie (Larry) Heath, and 15 nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends at Martin & Hightower Funeral Home in Carrollton, GA on Friday, April 10th, 2026, from 5-8 pm. Funeral services will be conducted at The Church at Pleasant Hill on Saturday, April 11th at 11:00 am, where he will lie in state at the Church one hour prior to the funeral.

Interment will follow in the Church cemetery. Papa's grandsons and grandsons-in-law will serve as pallbearers. The services will be officiated by Rev. Bobby Littleton, Rev. David Farris, Rev. Jacob Day, Rev. Andrew Farris, and Rev. Gary Jennings.

Floral arrangements will be accepted, or those desiring may make memorial contributions to the Cemetery Fund at The Church at Pleasant Hill.
