Obituary

Thurmond Fred Parks Sr. was called home to be with the Lord on February 12, 2026, surrounded by his loving family.

He was born on September 11, 1940, to Joseph and Florence Parks. On February 13, 1959, he married the love of his life, Alice Lee Jenkins, and together they shared 67 wonderful years of marriage.

Thurmond was a devoted husband, father, and Pawpaw. He was most known for his deep love for his family, including his three children: Deborah Camp, Patricia Burt, and Buddy (Sandra) Parks. He was also blessed with six grandchildren—Marty, Mystie (Rob), Alex, Michaela (Alex), Kacy, and Jennifer (Kevin)—and ten great-grandchildren, all of whom brought him immense joy.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Alice Parks; son-in-law, Randy Burt; his parents, Joseph and Florence Parks; and his siblings, Raymond, Bobby, Gary, and Linda.

Thurmond attended Liberty Baptist Church in Douglasville, Georgia. He dedicated many years of service to Atlanta Water Works before retiring. He enjoyed traveling across the country with his wife and family, creating cherished memories along the way.

In his later years, Thurmond resided at The Birches in Villa Rica, where he formed meaningful friendships with both staff and fellow residents. He especially enjoyed playing bingo and spending time with those around him.

Above all, his greatest blessing was being called "Dad" and "Pawpaw."

He is survived by his loving children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, sister: Carolyn Pitts, and many nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends on Friday, February 13, 2026, from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Hightower's Memorial Chapel.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, February 14, 2026, at 12:00 PM in the chapel of the funeral home, with Pastor Tommy Freeman, Pastor Kevin Harris, and Pastor Terry Marbut officiating. Jakob Bearden, Alex Magni, Rob Gatewood, Kevin Cheely, Lee Isley, and Randy Parks will serve as pallbearers.

Interment will follow at Meadowbrook Memory Garden, 1100 NE Hickory Level Rd, Villa Rica, GA 30180.
