Obituary

William "Bill" Blackburn Hubbard, of Bremen, Georgia, died at peace on December 23, 2025. Bill was born February 4th, 1948 as the youngest child of Samuel Walter Hubbard Sr. and Marjorie Blackburn Hubbard of Bremen. Bill is survived by nephews Steve, S.W., and Whitney Hubbard; nieces Buff Wheeler and Leigh Hubbard; great-niece Linda Hubbard; cousins Sally Stapler, Mary Nethery, and Kimberly Thomson; cousins Ed, Joe, Ridley and Tom Hubbard; and sister-in-law Gloria D'Angelo. Bill was preceded in death by his parents Sam and Marjorie, brothers Sammy and John, sister Marjorie Jane, and his favorite cousin Dick Perkins. Bill leaves behind Gayle Simmons, former wife and love of his life; Walter Anderson, lifelong friend, best friend, and tightest musical partner; caregivers and dear friends, Melody Pruner, Nancy Nethery, and Valerie Paige Robinson-Crosby; and Rebecca Tucker, who Bill thought of as a daughter.

Bill loved here, he loved there, he loved everywhere. He loved his parents most of all. Bill was handsome but didn't spend too much time looking at himself. Ron Carter and Jack Bruce were two bassists he admired most. The song "Paperback Writer" opened his eyes wide. One book he often referenced was Carl Yung's Man and His Symbols. Every so often, he would talk about how great of an actor Olivier was. Generally speaking, he got agitated and demoralized when he forced himself to watch the Atlanta Falcons. He could be content with not testing inertia, yet when he spoke, he could zigzag, sprint, and coast. If given the chance, he could've competed on Jeopardy. Whoever was lucky enough to hear him laugh was given a free vacation.

We ask for friends and family to celebrate Bill's life on May 16th, beginning with an internment at 11:30 AM at the Bremen Cemetery and followed by a reception at Hightower Family Care Center, 318 Gordon Street, Bremen and ending with a spreading of ashes at Hubbard Lake Property.
