William Jackson Downey, Jr, age 84 of Bremen, passed away on Thursday, June 4, 2026. He was born in Atlanta on December 30, 1941, son of the late William Jackson Downey, Sr and Frances McBrayer Downey. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Carol Ann Downey; and a brother Mike Downey.

Bill attended and graduated from Bowling Green High School in Kentucky. He then attended Auburn University and graduated in 1964 with a pharmacy degree making him a lifelong supporter of the Auburn Athletics especially enjoying football and basketball.

After college, he felt the call to serve his country and joined the National Guard during the Vietnam War. He worked the next 45 years with 20 years of that as the Director of Pharmacy at Higgins General Hospital in Bremen. Before he was limited in his mobility, he enjoyed dancing, walking, going to the beach and his greatest passion playing the "Stock Market".

Survivors include his children, Brian Matt and Lisa Downey of Jefferson, Georgia and Marc and Catherine Downey and grandchildren, Jacob Downey and Sydney Downey, all of Suwanee.

The family will receive friends on Saturday, June 6, 2026 from 5:00 pm – 7:00 pm at the funeral home.

Services will be Sunday, June 7, 2026 at 2:00 pm from the Chapel of Hightower Funeral Home. Joe Jones, Tim Huff, Randy Sanders, Lauchlin McKinnon, Ed Mann and Jeff Thibodeau will serve as Pallbearers.

Interment will follow at Bremen City Cemetery.
